Product Review

This is the one to buy!

by   njronbo ,   Aug 22, 2007

Pros:  Light, powerful and well constructed groomer that glides effortlessly across my face.

Cons:  No charging stand. No travel pouch.

The Bottom Line:  Remington has a reputation for their grooming products and I find the MB-300 to be no exception here. This is a quality groomer!

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

For years I have bought various Wahl blade groomers whose blades need constant oiling and ultimately stop working because of rust.

This year I wanted to try something different. I wanted to find a groomer that would be a "cut" above the rest in terms of ease of use and trimming comfort. I spent a few hours reading reviews on various websites and found the Remington MB-300 to be rated consistently high. I had initially looked to buy the more expensive MB-400 with built-in vacuum to handle loose clippings, but read that it suffers from flimsy construction.

I just received my Remington groomer yesterday and immediately put it use. I was surprised to discover how light this groomer actually is, though fortunately, the construction seems solid. I plugged the charger cord into the MB-300 as a small light on the bottom indicated charging had begun.

I just couldn't wait to use this baby, so while plugged in and charging, I did my first test shave. I had purposely let my goutee grow rather bushy over the past week in anticipation of this new groomer. The big question was just how low I needed to set the trimmer guard. There is a small number dial on the front of the unit that adjusts the trimmer guard. Most certainly, with any new electric razor, this is a trial-and-error process. Unfortunately, my first experience was an error. I set the dial to "2" and was horrified as the groomer cut my goutee way too short. I estimate that "3" would be the number to use at next attempt.

What I was delighted to find, however, is that the shave experience was absolutely wonderful. This is a powerful unit that did a remarkably quick and efficient job. Unlike the Wahl blade units I have used in the past that feel as if you are pulling hairs, the Remington MB-300 smoothly glided across my goutee. It was the most comfortable experience I have ever had with a groomer.

There is also a small pop-up blade that allows you to trim your moustache or create fine edges within your beard. I found this tool very effective.

There are a few minor cons here. First, there is no charger base. This means that you have to lay the charger somewhere on your counter when not in use. Remington could have at least provided a stand of sorts to accommodate this unit. Secondly, they could also have provided a travel pouch which is nowhere to be found. Third, the unit is noisy. I was hoping for something a little more quiet than my old Wahl razor, but that was not to be the case here.

On the plus side, this is a quality product that should be amongst your first picks when considering a cordless unit for your grooming needs. Best of all, because the blades are titanium, you need never to have to oil or worry about rust.
