Author's Review
I have used the single foil Remington Microscreen 1 (SP3) for about two or three years, and I decided to buy this Titanium 280 recently because of the amazing price ($30 @ Target). I was pleased with the Microscreen 1, but it was getting too difficult to find replacement screens/cutters. Now, I have been regularly using this Titanium 280 for a couple of weeks and I'm confident it is a very good product.
I was surprised by (and disagree with) the experiences of some other reviewers on this site for this product: I do not get irritation--certainly NOT cuts or razor burns--from this shaver, but it does shave as close as a wet shave. Furthermore, the shaver is holding a very good charge: I've only charged it twice so far (once for the initial 16-24 hr. charge, then another time overnight, though I could have gone longer). Though some might think it is loud, it is not as loud as the Microscreen 1 I've been using for years now. This 280's rinseable head makes cleaning after each use simple.I imagine that the reason why other people may have had above problems with the shaver is that they weren't following the instructions from Remington. First, the manual says not to press too hard on the skin, and that your skin may take a while to get used to the shaver (I didn't need any acclimation period); that's the only way I could imagine someone could get cuts and burns from this rather safe razor (by pressing too hard at wrong angles). Second, the manual instructs to fully charge the razor before using -- I'm sure reports of battery problems must have something to do with this.
I'm satisfied with the purchase of this shaver--it was a really good deal (like another reviewer wrote, this is a real sleeper--and excellent deal!).
