Author's Review
Rooster Cogburn, played by Wayne, is the last of the series of True Grit. This time the old rooster, Wayne, is stuck with a bible toting woman, and a young indian boy, along with fighting bad guys all the way.
Wayne gives a rip-roaring portrayal of a worn out old Sheriff, trying to bring in the bad guys, while saddled with a woman who wants to convert him, and a young boy who idolizes him.
What gets you in this one is that Wayne and Hepburn have a chemistry all their own here. You feel it all through the movie, like a deep abiding respect for one another. And when Hepburn describes Wayne at the end, as a "burnt out old cowboy, with one eye, and a big belly," she says it with so much feeling, you can't stop the tears.
Both of these actors are aging here, and we get the feeling they are trying to tell us something. This movie is a must see if you like either or both of them. It is remarkable that they never teamed up before. But thank goodness they did before it was too late.
