I have had Rowenta irons for about 20 years and they are generally the best you can get. However, I bought a new Advancer and it would not auto shutoff. I exchanged it and the next had the same problem and also would not stop heating (it got extremely hot)! I tried a Rowenta Focus and it stopped auto-shutting after the third use and never vertically steamed. I have contact Rowenta and they are looking into it. But, be careful about the auto shut off - that can cause serious problems. It's too bad that the QC has gotten so bad.
