The irony of an iron: Rowenta D-Effective Iron
Pros:
It was a good iron... while it lasted.
Cons:
It didn't last very long. Rowenta's products suck overall.
The Bottom Line:
Avoid Rowenta. If you buy, expect frustration, disappointment, and wrinkled clothing for a few weeks while waiting for a replacement.

Author's Review
My wife and I had to return this iron when, just days after the warranty expired, the auto-off system died. Rowenta allowed us to replace this iron by a new one (actually, another model, this model is no longer available... no wonder why). Here's when our experience with Rowenta became quite a revelation about how crappy their products are. A summary of our experience:
* More than a week to get the letter that allowed us to send the iron for replacement, more than two weeks since we took the iron to their official service center... and still no replacement. (By the way, Rowenta only has three service centers in the USA, in IL, NY, and CA. If you don't leave closeby, you'll have to ship a heavy iron on the mail and pay the shipping.)
* Because we couldn't afford not to iron our clothes for such a long period, we decided to buy another iron. We bought a cheap iron (also a Rowenta) that was supposed to do wonders with steam (an ultra steam steambrush). We returned it within hours because, as much as we wanted to see it work, it just didn't happen. We then bought Rowenta's compact iron. This will be returned also: although it kind of works, I had to use it without any water. Not only it spilled water, but also the water came out with a dirty color, perhaps due to rust inside the iron (it actually stained some of my clothes).
So the question is: what happened to Rowenta? It was supposed to be a good, reliable brand! Yes, this might be true of the old Rowenta, the one our mothers came to love, the one that was made in Germany. Forget about that, that's history. The fact is that Rowenta now makes very cheap products that (a) don't work well, and (b) will die soon after their warranty expires (they seem to have 1 year and 1 day lifetime expectancy).
Avoid Rowenta products at all cost.
