My wife and I work in the outdoor industry and have really studied all the alternative baby carriers on the Market. Our little girl has spent many weekends discovering the outdoors form the seat of our baby carrier (including overnight trips to 13,000 ft peaks).

There seems to be 4 main features that separate the Sherpani from the rest of the pack (pardon the pun). They are the Five point chest plate, “OTF” adjustment system; the foot stirrups, and the stable suspension.

The Rumba uses a five point chest plate to secure the child; this harness is sewn into the seat and is adjustable. The plate serves two purposes; first it helps keep the child upright and comfortable (our baby would always tend to want slump forward) the chest plate corrects this problem. And, it spreads out the straps so that you don’t have five straps all coming into one point which can be really confusing.

The Sherpani “Backtrack OTF” harness adjustment is the only one (we could find) on the market that allows you to adjust the pack to each parent while you are wearing it. This is great because it allows you to fine tune the fit while it's on you and you can pass the carrier back and forth without disturbing the baby to readjust the fit.

The foot stirrups (for the child) are nice because they give the kid a way of adjusting their own positioning by pushing off with their feet. The stirrups are also adjustable as your child’s legs get longer; I understand that it helps the circulation in their legs also.

Maybe the best thing about the Rumba is the suspension; Sherpani uses the same style of support and control that is used in expedition backpacks. The back has two aluminum stays, a plastic frame sheet and closed cell foam. It is very comfortable and stable.

The only problem we have found is that he topper sunshade is a little clumsy to install the fist few times. But once you get the hang of it, it’s really a snap.

we also like the styles and colors of the Rumba; they are more contemporary then other ther models on the market.
