Printing woes...
I bought this printer last summer while at a pre-law program. Every day I had to print out 8 cases (about 240 pages). Some of that was in the computer lab at school. But the bulk of it was printed out at home. At the time, I had an HP 672C inkjet and started spending too much money on replacement cartridges which are $30 each. In an effort to reduce my costs, I bought this model Best Buy for $179 with a $50 rebate.
Once at home...
I put this printer through a workout of 4000 pages over the course of eight weeks. I cannot be more pleased with its performance. Over the past 8 months, I've only changed the toner cartridge once. With the toner save option, one cartridge should last about 2500 pages, but in my experience it has been closer to 3000. Of course this depends on how much paper coverage you normally use. If you are printing text files like me, great. If you are printing program data, you'll probably get a little more life out of each toner. If you are printing flyers or the like, probably a little less. I was printing about 300 pages per inkjet cartridge on the HP, so that is a substantial savings even with the toner priced at $70.
Also, the printer runs very quietly. A nice change from the old HP inkjet which would shake my desk during printing. The 8MB of memory on this printer is great for sending multiple print jobs at once. I sometimes send five or more print jobs and go do something else. When I return a few short minutes later, the printer is finished. The old HP would usually either jam, or not have enough memory to finish the printing job. If the printer ever runs out of paper, it can wait indefinitely for more without losing the print job (there's that 8MB of memory again). I can even restart the computer in the middle of a document and the printer resumes as if nothing had happened.
The printer is so much faster than the HP. Compare the HP's 4 pages per minute to the Samsung's 12. What a difference. The Samsung never jams--I mean never. I have not had a single problem with it. This is a nice change of pace from the inkjets which are notorious for paper jams.
Networking was easy. I networked it to my roommate's computer. The USB port made that a snap. Runs well off of Windows 98 and XP platforms. The printer has envelope, business card, label and other media printing features which I cannot comment on because I have not used them yet.
What I did not like...
The only con is that I've given up color printing; however, 99% of my printing is black and white anyways.
This was a great investment. If you are considering buying an inkjet printer for your home or office, skip it and go for this one. It offers superior performance at a competitive price. You'll be glad you did.
Thank you for visiting my review. Good luck.
