When consolidating offices, one unique item we inherited was the
Sanford Expo Dry Erase Marker Eraser (Large). My first reaction upon seeing this mammoth eraser was, “How big was the white board!”
Description
This large Sanford Expo eraser measures 9 3/4” long x 2” wide x 3 1/2” high. The body is constructed from lightweight blue plastic. On each long side of the eraser is a long oval of non-slip rubberized material for a hand grip. Along the bottom of the eraser is a replaceable gray pad that is composed from eight layers of felted material.
My Experiences
At first I wondered how practical this enormous eraser would be. I had never seen a dry erase marker eraser this big. I thought it would be awkward to hold and use. I was wrong.
This eraser is incredibly light weight. The rubberized ovals along each side make it easy to hold in one hand. My hand stays firmly in place, too, and feels comfortable. The large eraser pad also makes erasing marker from the white board more efficient. A few swipes from this eraser removes a lot of writing.
I find for more even erasing that using two hands, one at either end of the eraser, applies a more even pressure to the eraser pad. This also adds a bit more pressure against the board to remove stubborn markings. I tried this eraser on some red marker that another eraser was having trouble removing, and the red markings came right up.
The eight-layer felt pad is soft and does an excellent job at cleaning our white boards. Using this larger eraser, the white board cleans much faster. I can see where this eraser would be of benefit in a classroom setting. We have white boards of all sizes in this office, and this eraser works great on all of them.
Most of our whiteboards have narrow ledges, and this eraser falls off them. However, our one enormous whiteboard has a wider ledge that easily accommodates the size of this eraser. That is where we keep the eraser. When the eraser is removed from that larger whiteboard ledge, I will often find it sitting on a table near a smaller whiteboard.
This eraser has been in use for about a year. The royal-blue colored plastic is showing some scuff marks. Other than that, the eraser looks almost new. The felt pad is holding up well, too. It has not frayed or become misshapen. I don’t expect we’ll need to change it anytime soon.
Purchasing
This eraser retails for $14.00. Our company bought it from a local office supply store for $9.99.
I have only seen the replacement pads for sale online. They average around $5.00 per replacement pad.
Summary
This
Sanford Expo Dry Erase Marker Eraser (Large) makes a nice addition to our office. Would I say it is necessary? No. However, the larger size does make cleaning a whiteboard a quicker job. And sometimes that extra time comes in handy!
