UX B700 - Not a good buy

Pros:  small footprint

Cons:  ridiculously expensive ink usage poorly designed features

The Bottom Line:  avoid. Costly, poorly designed

Overall Rating: 1/5 stars

Author's Review

This is not a good fax machine.

First, it uses ink at an astounding rate, and the cartridges are over $30 a piece. It seems to print out 50 pages, and then needs new ink. I have had the machine little more than two months and I've already paid more in cartridges than I paid for the machine

Second, it can be reset from "fax" to "answer" (or whatever it is, but it disables the fax) by the light touch of a button. The cleaning lady in my office has now several times touched that button by mistake - which means people rang and rang and could not send me a fax. This is just bad design, and yes, I've taken steps to cover up the button (but it isn't as simple to do as you'd suppose)

Third, its features are surprisingly unhelpful. It can't send by memory to more than one location UNLESS each of those locations are pre-programmed as speed dials. Few of its settings are intuitive; if you've misplaced the manual and need to change something, you're lost.

The one good thing about this is its small size - but that's not enough to outweigh the drawbacks, so this gets one star only.

P.S. Does anyone out there know a fax that is a successor to the Lumina 2000? This was a small company that built a fax to connect to your printer - I had a high-speed laser printer and it used to work great. Very small footprint, very user friendly, very efficiently designed. Company went bust. HP **used** to make a similar machine, but now there is no one.

So much for "consumer welfare".
