Shrek the Third - Critics seem to hate it but I love it

I went to see Shrek the Third the weekend it opened with my fifteen year old daughter, but also plan on buying the DVD, so I am submitting this for a DVD review. We have seen the first two movies on DVD.

It's a good thing I did not read the critics opinions until after I had seen this movie. The critics just tear this one up. However, I loved it and so did my daughter, we had a lot of laughs.

We both liked the music and the storyline. As with the other 2 Shrek movies, adults find something in this as well as kids of all ages. I did find it very much in line with the previous story lines. Shrek the third does continue where the other 2 left off. The fact I still like the most is the music selection and how well it supports the events that happen.

Warning for small children: The frog king dies, so there is a little bit of a sad part.

I like that they incorporate high school scenes. Critics call it cheesy and obvious but I had a good laugh about the whole high school bit. My daughter who is in high school also enjoyed that part.

I also like the play on characters - Arthur is the name of the king's probable successor and I like the tie to the legends of Camelot. Again the word play is what plays up to the adult audience, while the kids can enjoy that Arthur is in an age group they can relate to.

As usual, there is a moral to the story. It seems to have less violence (in my opinion) than at least one of the previous Shrek movies, and the violence it does have gets taken care of very nicely, with a nice moral to it, rather then an eye for an eye. But it does have good action in it.

It also teaches lessons in trust and self worth (when Arthur thinks Shrek betrayed him).
