I bought this machine at the local JoAnn's store. Unfortunately, there weren't any reviews yet. I just sat down to look over the manual. I went through all the steps in threading, step by step. I was ready to sew. I lowered the needle to pick up the bobbin thread and it wouldn't do it. As a matter of fact the bobbin wouldn't move at all. It's beneath a see through plate and I could see it wouldn't move. It is designed so there's no wrong way to insert the bobbin, although I did go through it a few more times to make sure it was threaded correctly, etc. I moved the needle from left to right and attempted to pick up the bobbin thread again to no avail. BUT, I did happen to notice when the needle was at the far left position, it hit some kind of obstruction when it went down into the machine. I consulted the handbook which said the needle may be bent. I inserted a brand NEW needle. Same crap!! So, based on the facts, here is the lowdown as I see it.
*It fails to pick up the bobbin thread no matter what I do.
*The bobbin fails to move, PERIOD!! Again, no matter what I do.
*The needle strikes something it shouldn't in the far left position.
Here's my question to the singer people. DO YOU HAVE A SYSTEM OF QUALITY CONTROL IN PLACE?? IF NOT, GET ONE!!!
What kind of company sends out any kind of appliance, vacuum cleaner, vehicle, any product whatsoever, without first running it through the last phase of production, which should be QUALITY CONTROL!!?? It's a good thing singer doesn't make life saving medical equipment, because I'm certain people would be dead!!
That said, I did what the insert said to do. "Do not return the machine to the store in which you purchased it". "Call customer support first". I called customer support. The woman told me that the timing was off, and to return it to the store in which I purchased it. (wasted cell phone minutes) Mind you, we only got to the very first problem, and never even addressed the second two. It might be more acceptable if there was only ONE problem, but, when a machine leaves the production line and out into the hands of a consumer with not one, not two, but three major problems, there is something desperately wrong.!!
So, I'm packing up the machine, and off to return it to JoAnn's. I had researched a brother machine that is available at Walmart, which happens to be right next door to JoAnn's in my city. I think I might go for that one instead. UGH!!
