To start off, let me say that the picture epinions currently has up is the incorrect picture. For the D-FS601, for a look at what the real thing looks like, go to any of the stores that are listed in the compare prices.
That said, this CD player rocks
literally. I had a bad time with all my CD players breaking on me. My first two personal CD players didnt last half a year. Luckily, on the second one I bought one of Best Buys extended warranties. So when I went to the store with my old broken Rio, I had 70 dollars that I could use towards a new one, and then I saw this one on sale. What really caught my eye was the advertised 30 to 40 hour battery life. I couldnt believe it, and just had to see if it was for real (the battery life on my last CD player was closer to 5 hours). Now its more than 2 years later, and am I ever glad I purchased this CD player.
What this CD player does well.
Ive always liked Sonys products, and after using this CD player, I will never buy one made by any other company again, this CD player is just too good.
The sound quality is great. I use this CD player at the gym every day, I dont have any big expensive headphones, but the music that comes out of this CD player is always crisp and clear. And about skipping, what skipping. In the two years Ive owned this, Ive banged 50, 60, 70 lb. weights against this CD player, and have never had a problem with it skipping.
This CD player is the closest thing to indestructible that Ive ever seen. Using this at the weight room, you can imagine what kind of beating this thing takes. Every so often Ill be a little careless while curling, and a 35 lb. weight will come flying right into the side of this CD player, nothing happens. I dont even want to think about how many times this thing has fallen out of my pocket while Ive been on a bench, or doing inclined sit-ups, all I need to do is pick it up, and plug my headphones back in (most of the time the music is still playing). If you are one who has trouble breaking CD players (or trouble not breaking CD players as it were), then this would be a great choice for you.
This CD player is water resistant. You might think that that doesnt really matter, but my CD player before my Rio was ruined by water. I had to walk the 1.5 miles from the train station to my summer job, and it was raining pretty hard. It was just like me to forget my umbrella at home, so I got soaking wet, along with my old CD player. Well, that CD player definitely was not water resistant, because for the next day it would randomly turn on and off, and switch modes, after that it was never the same. I have had this CD player out in the rain a few times already, and have never had a problem. I havent even had to wait for it to dry out, because the insides never get wet.
The battery life on this thing is amazing. At first I didnt believe it was possible for batteries in a CD player to last for more than 10 hours, boy was I ever wrong. The batteries in this thing usually last me more than two months. At about 40 minutes a day (I dont listen to music when doing everything at the gym) that comes out to just about 40 hours of battery life. Thats not the kind of perfectly balanced no bumps battery life, but always moving, and always running the anti-skip.
What this CD player doesnt do well.
I wouldnt want to have any other CD player, but there are a few things that are less than perfect with this CD player.
This CD player is a bit hefty. If you are looking for a CD player to go running with, this one might be a bit too heavy for that. I go running every day, but I dont listen to music because I run on streets and dont want to get hit by a car. This CD player does come with a strap for your hand, but I wouldnt recommend this CD player for someone who only wants it to run.
This CD player is a bit more expensive than others on the market. If you use your CD player every day, though, the extra money is well worth it. Just think of how good your new energy efficient CD player is being to the environment, and who can put a price on the environment.
Conclusions.
This is a CD player as it should be. It is nearly indestructible, energy efficient, with great sound to top it all off. If you are looking for a solid CD player that you can take to the gym, a CD player that wont break in half a year, or just want to be a bit more energy efficient, this would be an excellent choice. Sony has just recently come out with a more recent version as well that you might want to have a look at. If you are looking for something to run with, Id recommend that you get an mp3 player instead, they are much lighter.
