Author's Review
I originally bought these headphones to use on airplane flights. However, they are so comfortable, and the sound quality is so good, that I routinely use them around the house or yard, with my iPod!
The best feature of these headphones is definitely the sound quality. The speakers are nice and big, and - compared to something like iPod earbuds - the richness and fullness of whatever you're listening to is infinitely greater. While definitely made of light plastic, the fit and finish of the product is quite good - Sony quality!
The noise-canceling feature of the headphones is a little counter-intuitive, but it works well. Basically, when switched on, the headphones produce a faint humming noise that somehow cancels out typical background noise. I imagine that it is designed for the frequency of aircraft noise, but I've found that it works very well for mowing the lawn! I put in earplugs, put on the headphones, turn on the noise canceling feature, and crank my iPod all the way up. The headphones cancel out the lawnmower noise, and the earplugs lower the overall noise level (so that I don't deafen myself).
The only issue I have with these headphones is that the on/off switch is very light, and is easily turned on by accident. This means that you can put the headphones away, bump the switch by accident, and have two dead AAA batteries the next time you go to use them.
