Save your money if you want to record albums

Date of Review: Dec 24, 2003

The Bottom Line:  Find another recorder if that is what you are looking for. This one just creates coasters.
I was horribly disappointed with this equipment. I have over 100 great old albums from the 60's and 70's that I wanted to put onto CD's. I used the SONY Music CD-R's, so there would be no compatibility issues, but in 9 attempts I burnt 7 coasters and 2 CD's. Halfway thru recording the machine would suddenly flash a "CODE 13" meaning that some vibration occurred or there was dirt on the blank CD. Hogwash. No movement occurred, no vibrations, brand new clean CD's out of the box. Three times it recorded right up until I had to turn the album over, then it seemed to want to start over and appeared to be recording from the beginning again. Twice it simply failed halfway thru the first side of the album. Twice it seemed to have recorded everything, but went tilt during the finalizing process. Also, the only way to separate the tracks is to manually pause the recorder, then restart at each new track on an album - otherwise you get one long track. And since I like to play random tracks on my "jukebox", rather than one album all the way thru, that was a pain. I have a SONY CD "jukebox" for playing CD's, and all I wanted was a recorder. Back to the drawing board, more research to find one that will actually do the job. This one is totally unreliable. I expected better from Sony. On the positive side, I have spent a LOT of time listening to some great Jefferson Airplane and Moody Blues albums lately!!

Pros
I guess it makes a nice CD player, with the 5 slots for CD's.
Cons
Too unreliable to use to burn CD's from analog sources (tapes and albums).
