I just recently got this for my Fony DSC-F707. It fits ontop of the "dummy" shoe and it plugs into the acc. terminal on the camera.
The Sony DSC-F707 has a decend built-in flash. But I did not like the red eye reduction feature, takes too long. Also, in dark areas, it always gives either a washed out look and alot of hot spots on the subject. With the HVL-F1000, you can use the "bounce" feature to distribute the light evenly and eliminating red eye. Lets say you are taking a picture in room with white walls and ceiling. Well, put the flash straight up and when you take the shot, the flash will bounce off the ceiling and the adjacent walls. It really gives a very soft look, very natural without any glares. If you do not have a white ceiling/walls, go to www.lumiquest.com and purchase one of their pocket bouncer for about $20. It attaches to your flash and distribute the light in the same manner, except you can do this without any ceilings or walls.
One downside to this flash is that when you take portrait shots, there's no way you can point the flash up. You can eitehr make a custom bracket to make it work or use the Lumiquest pocket bouncer.
The HVL-F1000 takes 4 AA batteries and it also has an acc. terminal on it so in case you want to use the wired remote to take pictures, you can just plug it in there since the acc. terminal on the camera is already plugged in by the flash.
The retail price on this is $119 and you can get it from Dell.com for less than $80 shipped. Good luck.
*****Update**** The flash comes with a bracket to screw onto the tripod screw. You can twist the bracket so you can still use the bounce function to take portrait shots.
