doesn't live up to expectations
Date of Review: Dec 23, 2002
The Bottom Line: Sony had good intentions with this phone but it just doesn't live up to expectations. Get something less complicated.
We first bought this phone as a set with the corded base/answering machine unit and two extra cordless handsets. We liked the idea of being able to place the extra handsets where ever we wanted in the house without the limitations of finding the nearest phone jack.
The instructions are a little complicated since the phone has so many different features. I was able to program our most-used numbers into the directory, however it takes almost as much time to find the number and dial it from the directory than it would be to just dial the number using the keypad. Honestly, we have not yet used any of the other functions. The jog-dial is touchy and hard to navigate if you're in a hurry.
My biggest complaint about this handset is that the keypad stopped working after only 9 months of use. We now only have 4 numbers that work, while the rest are unresponsive when you press them. So, unless I have a particular number stored in the directory, I cannot make a call. The warranty is good for one year, however we do not have our original receipt and we would have had to send it away for repair service.
The sound quality is good and I'm sure the other functions (hopefully) work fine, if I ever decided to take the time to figure them out, but it's a little too complicated for someone who just wants a regular cordless phone with caller ID.
