This is one "HOT" receiver!
Pros:
many features, flexible connectability and great sound!
Cons:
runs hot and has a rather imposing remote control
The Bottom Line:
I hate to downgrade this fine receiver...the shortcomings that "I think" exist may only exist with me! Check it out for its' many features, great sound and killer price!

Author's Review
Hi folks!
I am new to this site, but not to high quality sound...I am here to tell you that this receiver has changed my life! It all began when my decade old, stereo Techniques receiver bit the dust. I shopped around and found this for $316 at Vann's out of Montana! Well, things have certainly changed...for starters; 7.1 sound, huh? When did this happen? Once I bought some more speakers (Primus 150's--for the side channel) and a Cerwin Vega (center)...I found out! Great sound and sound stage...and with the aid of the big Cerwin Vega 15" powered sub--deep, powerful bass. I must say that I have not noticed any distortion in the bass-zone...Anywho, to make a long story short..."I" think this receiver delivers great clean sound...period!
On to bigger and better things:
Connections...well, it doesn't have a hook up for my pc..but, that's OK. I suppose if you need that, you would buy an Onyko receiver (for such a lot more!). What it does have really interested me...not one, but two sets of 5.1 audio inputs for DVD-Audio AND SACD...I use both (and love it!). I bought a JVC XV-NA 77 DVD player and when I heard my first DVD audio...it was like hearing my first CD! Funny thing that CD invention...when I heard how superior they were I never played another record....EVER! Well, I wouldn't have a use for my CD's now if it wasn't for my car system. Later on, I bought the amazing Samsung HD-841...my focus was the upscaling feature now that I finally had a Hi-Def TV...amazing! I can't believe how many negative comments I read prior to my buying one on sale...it almost prevented this purchase. I'm glad I took the chance because I have never experienced any problem with this fine DVD player. But, I saved the best for last...SACD!!! Wow! This format sounds even cleaner than DVD-A. For once I can buy discs that sound great at home AND in my car--if they are the hybrid type, that is...
All and all...I like this Sony receiver a lot! The only thing I can think of that is negative is...it seems to run hot (hence the title of this essay). Yeah, hot to the touch...abnormally so. I am worried that this will eventually cause its' demise. I have owned this receiver for 9 months or so, and..it hasn't happened yet...so, this ominous feeling is beginning to fade. The other thing is the remote...I mean is this me or was this remote designed by aliens? ("nice" ones, not the ones in the movie of the same name) However, this I attribute to my absence from the hi-fi scene for a decade or more than any shortcomming of the unit itself.
In closing, I have barely touched on the many, many features of this receiver...but, it looks to be a receiver that will (hopefully) last and continue to satisfy my audio and home-theater needs. It works and works well!
