Three Bad Guys & One Little Spider

Spiderman once again returns to the big screen in Spiderman 3. This time around Peter Parker has finally won the heart of Mary Jane Watson yet his friendship with his ex best friend Harry Osborne has gone right out the window. Harry found out Spiderman is really Peter Parker and still thinks Spiderman killed his father. While Peter Parker keeps telling Harry he didn't kill his dad, a new photographer named Eddie Brock starts to interfere with Peter's job by selling The Daily Bugle photos of Spiderman. When Peter and Mary Jane go on a date, a meteor crashes to Earth in the distance and a black goo like life form latches itself onto Peter's moped and goes home with him. When Peter falls asleep the alien life form crawls onto him and turns his Spiderman suit pitch black giving Peter more strength and speed yet also making his attitude worse and starts making him distance himself from those he loves. The parasitic life form eats away at Peter and when he finally rids himself of it the alien attaches itself to the first person it sees, Eddie Brock and transforms him into Venom. Meanwhile a convict named Flint Marko escapes out of prison and heads home to see his daughter Penny. After being run out of the house by his ex wife, the cops chase him into a secret testing facility that does tests involving breaking down molecules and reforming them somewhere else. Flint gets caught inside and is transformed into the Sandman and he goes out and robs armed security trucks to get money to save his daughter's life because she is desperately ill. Venom meets up with Sandman and makes him a deal, they'll kill Spiderman and they'll have free reign of the city.

Tobey Maguire dons the Spiderman suit one more time and this time around his acting really steps up the plate. When Peter is transformed into the black suited Spiderman he starts to go crazy and does whatever he wants to do when he wants to do it and Tobey Maguire really played that part well. Then there is the return of Kirsten Dunst and like I said before, her portrayal of Mary Jane is nothing like I thought I thought Mary Jane should be from reading the comics. Her acting is quite well, however and she does a good job at her on screen romance with Tobey Maguire. James Franco steps into the shoes of Harry Osborne once more and this time he travels deeper into his depraved mind and it forces him to step into the same machine his father stepped into in the first movie and he makes a suit and calls himself the New Goblin. Venom is played by Topher Grace (from That 70's Show) and he isn't what I imagined Eddie Brock to be either. In the comics Eddie Brock was muscular and he definitely wasn't a photographer for the Daily Bugle. However, Topher Grace's performance was one that blew me away. He is very talented and it shows in this movie as he really captures the essence of Eddie Brock and Venom. Also new to this movie is Thomas Haden Church as the Sandman. I love how they kept his suit the way it was in the comics and I also think he did well in playing Flint Marko/Sandman and he also makes you feel for his character as he struggles to get money to save her life.

The special effects were great in this movie and I really love the fight scenes between Harry, Peter, Sandman and Venom. They all seemed so intense and I love how Peter and Harry's battle takes place on the back of Harry's hang glider. The only problem I have with this movie is how they made Venom's suit. Of course the comic book Venom had a black suit with a big white spider across the chest and his mouth was stretched open, but the comic book version didn't have webbing on it. It's like they copied Spiderman's suit and made it better. Other than that little complaint, this movie is definitely one of my favorites and the best Spiderman so far, I'd have to say.
