Author's Review
I have been a subscriber to Sports Illustrated for about two and a half years so far. And I plan to keep my subscription going for quite a while longer. Sports Illustrated brings everything that a hard core sports fan could want, and everything someone who just wants a good conversation started needs. I like everything about SI, there is absolutly nothing wrong with this magazine.
Writing
Sports Illustrated has some of the best sports writers I have ever read. They provide excellent, current writing with a great style exclusive to SI. You can tell that all of the articles written have been researched extensivly and the writers are never biased, unlike most other sports magazines out there. Some magazines like one athlete, and even if they offer a flawless preformance, they will still be shot down by the biased writers. Not in SI. The writers at SI are open to any athlete and sport, and alaways bring informative, well written words to the pages of this great magazine.
Oh,and by the way, my favorite SI writer is Rick Reilly, who writes for the back page of SI. He always seems to bring humor to the sports world and tackles the most controversial topics (this week was racism towards white people!).
Features
Sports Illustrated has a cornicopia of features, each one better than the last. The letters section at the start of the magazine is lengthly and provides other readers feedback on the magazine. There is always a 6 page section that features hard hitting, funny pictures from the sports world. SI also features things like "What to Watch on TV", Faces in the Crowd (A section about upcoming athletes that have made significant achievments) and my favorite feature, "Life With Reilly", which features Rick Reilly's humorous column.
Photographs
Some times it seems that the Sports Illustrated photographers are actually playing in the sports they are taking pictures of. The photos are very in-depth and always show an emotion no other magzine has. They capture the pain, sweat and sacrifice all the athletes go through. Excellent photography only accents the amazig writing in the magazine though.
Coverage
Sports Illustrated seems to cover each sport with amazing depth and they never seem to exclude a sport. At sometimes, it seems that football is the main focus, but if you can look past that, SI is very good at covering the sports world. Right now, they are focusing on the 2002 Winter Olympics with suprisingly good coverage. And every week, they always have exclusive interviews with famous athletes from every sports (even curling!).
Bottom Line
All in all, SI is a great magazine for anyone who likes to keep up to date in the sports world, but make sure you get a years subscription so you get a chance to get the Swimsuit Issue!!
