Storyline (Spoilers at the end)
Brennan Huff (Ferrell) is a thirty-nine-year-old living with his single mother, Nancy (Mary Steenburgen). He works occasionally but never holds a job.
Dale Doback (Reilly) is a forty-year-old who lives with his single father, Robert (Richard Jenkins). Dale is unemployed and doesn't think he needs to work, since his dad takes care of him.
Robert and Nancy meet each other at a conference and eventually get married and move in together, which means Brennan and Dale are forced to live with each other also. They immediately hate one another and act like two spoiled brats!
Dale has a prized possession, his drum set. He warns Brennan never to touch his drum set..or else! This makes Brennan want to play the drum set even more!
One day Brennan plays on Dale's drum set and leaves the room quickly before Dale notices. Dale suspects something when he comes home so he goes to check on his drum set and notices that there is a chip on one of his drumsticks, which wasn't there before.
He accuses Brennan of playing his drums but Brennan denies everything, which leads to a huge physical fight that carries into the front yard for all of the neighbors to see. Nancy comes home and sees the boys fighting, she can't stop them so she calls Robert and he comes home to break it up but he can't either.
Dale and Brennan finally end the fight by hitting each other at the same time with a bat and a golf club.
Robert and Nancy have had enough and decide that the immature two men should find jobs or else they're out of the house.
Brennan's always hated his successful brother Derek (Adam Scott) because he is mean to him. Derek and his family come over to dinner and Brennan and Dale go hide in Dale's tree house so they don't have to see Derek. Derek comes out to the tree house to make fun of Brennan and Dale.
Dale is not afraid of Derek like Brennan is and he punches Derek in the face.
Brennan is so in awe that Dale hit Derek, because he has wanted to for so long but never had the courage to do so.
Derek's wife Alice (Kathryn Hahn), who really does not like her husband at all, finds it very arousing that Dale punched Derek, she becomes so infatuated with him and kisses him right in the front yard with Derek only feet away, but he didn't see.
After the punching incident Dale and Brennan realize that they have a lot in common and decide to be best friends.
Their parents force them to look for jobs and go on interviews and they go on many but none work out. While walking home from another interview, the boys decide to start their own company called "Prestige Worldwide", a music company.
They create a music video to promote their singing. During Derek's birthday party they premier the video, which was shot on Robert's most prized possession, his boat. At the end of the video the boat crashes into a rock accidentally, Robert is infuriated.
This was enough! Their antics lead their two parents to a divorce and they're forced to move out and live apart. They both lead separate lives with decent jobs for a while, Brennan starts working for Derek's helicopter sales party and Dale becomes a caterer. At the Catalina Wine Mixer (arranged by Brennan), Robert sees that the boys are miserable and tells them to just be themselves again.
Brennan and Dale get the courage to go on stage to sing, because the band walked out during a song due to an annoying crowd member. Their song brings everyone together, Robert and Nancy fall in love all over again and Derek admits the love he has for his brother.
Dale and Brennan go on to become a successful karaoke duo and their company is a success. Robert and Nancy get married again and move back into the old house, this time they have a surprise for the boys, a new tree house - Which is made out of Robert's crashed boat!

My Thoughts
I was expecting this movie to be really funny, I like Will Farrell a lot and when he was in Talladega Nights with John C. Reilly they had great chemistry, so I expected this movie to be just as funny.
I was a little disappointed though, I thought some of the humorous parts were just dumb. I did like the ending and the basic story is pretty good, I like that everything works out in the end.
The actors /actresses chosen for the movie I think fit it well, it was different to see Mary Steenburgen in this type of comedy.
One of my favorite parts is when Brennan and Dale show their music video at Derek's birthday. It's funny when they accidentally wreck the boat. The song is amusing too.
Overall I would say this movie is ok but I wouldn't buy it, I would watch it again if I was in the mood to watch a movie but nothing better was on. :)
