Author's Review
Tupac still continues to put out good records even after his demise in 1996. His newest album joins R U Still Down and Greatest Hits as records released after his death. It is currently my favorite that he published after his demise. The beats are awesome. Many songs are just worth listening to for the beats. High Speed and Letter to the President are some of the best examples. Out of the 14 tracks, there was 2 I did not like. It's mainly because the beats get on your nerves, but other than those 2 songs, the album has some of the best beats I have ever heard. Since his death, rap has taken a big hit. Rappers like Black Rob and Drama insult the genre. Drama, for instance, actually begins to rhyme LETTERS together. The last verse has him counting. I watch the video to laugh. 95% of the rappers don't make sense today. Not 2pac. Each verse is well constructed. You can actually see how much time he puts into each line. Whereas Drama and others may just use swears and random words, 2pac uses literay devices such as metaphors and similes. It's like poetry. One line that catches my attention every time I hear it is "everybody crying out hypocritical to Lady Liberty, that blind b**** ain't eva done s*** for me." Drama would say something like "A TO B TO C TO D 1 5 6 2 ISU MIT." 2pac's newest album shows what rap can be like if the artist just put time into their albums. Nowadays, much of the industry is in it for the money. Sure, the album has its faults. Sometimes, the words are incoherent, due to either the recording or 2pac running out of breath, Killuminti is a good example of this. You can still make sense of the song, but you have to listen far more closely to it than the other songs. Many people have accused that The Outlawz detract from this album. This is unfounded. They add a fresh sound and a refreshing break for 2pac. The Outlawz also have their own rhythm and its interesting to see how the entire piece turns out. Overall, this album is far better than the other selections that are availble. It's not his best album ( that honor goes to 2pacaplyse NOW ) but its far from the worst this industry has put out. It's worth far more than its price.
