Author's Review
OK, let me try something different on this game review. Here it goes.
In this game, you play Hollywood stuntman Vic Armstrong. You go from movie to movie, performing increasingly difficult stunts to try and create the most intense movie trailer possible. As you go from movie to movie, you rise up the ranks from a rookie stuntman to the leading role in a major film to the movie's stunt coordinator. You have to do various challenging stunts, from coming within inches of passing cars and scattering crowds to performing cannon rolls and executing perfect 180 degree U-turns. You can drive almost anything, from cars to motorcycles to snowmobiles. Still, there is one question left to be asked: Do you have what it takes to be the best stuntman in Hollywood?
Pros
Difficulty
This game is very good because of it's increasing difficulty. After you pass every scene, you have to perform more challenging stunts in less and less time. To me, this makes the game totally action-packed. It forces you to use your reflexes to their fullest in order to create the best scene. Plus, it increases in difficulty at a pretty reasonable pace. You never feel totally overwhelmed by how challenging a certain scene can be.
Controls
This game's controls are extremely simple. I swear, you can look at the manual once and memorize the controls in an instant. Simple: X is accelerate, [] is brake/reverse, and O and /\ are the handbrake. There are other controls you have to memorize, but you can get them as simple as going from 0-60.
Movie Titles
The titles for every movie you perform in are very creative. Sure, some of them come pretty close to movies and shows you've all heard of, but they are still pretty cool. For example, one movie you perform in is called A Whoopin' and A Hollerin'. This movie closely resembles The Dukes of Hazzard in it's manner and story, but there are enough differences to make it original.
Graphics
The graphics in this game are superb. The animation sequences for the trailers are every well put together. They seem nearly lifelike, although you know they are CGI. In play, the graphics are extremely smooth. If there are any glitches, they are barely noticable if not at all. Plus, the details go with what has happened. If you wreck your car into a lamp post, you see the dent and damage of where you hit. It is very realistic.
Locations
While you perform in your movies, you get to visit many different locations. You can go from the backwaters of Louisiana, U.S.A. and deserts of Cairo, Egypt to the alleys of London, England and highways of Bangkok, Thailand. Each location closely resembles its real life counterpart. It is almost as if you can travel to a different country without ever having to leave your house.
Cons
I can't really give any stand-out cons for this game because, in my honest opinion, I haven't really noticed any. If I had to give a con for the game, I'd say you don't get to choose your car for the scene. Still that's not much of a con. I think it's pretty cool.
Extras
This game also features the ability to create and perform in your very own stunt show. As you go through the scenes, you can earn different cars and "arena toys" so you can go into the Stunt Builder and create the best stunt show ever performed! Get toys to do flips, jumps, loop-de-loops, and car dominos! Earn cars from the scenes you perform. Also, you can view the making of Stuntman plus an interview with the man the game is based around, Hollywood stuntman Vic Armstrong, whose credits include, but are not limited to, such movies as Die Another Day, Entrapment, and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. This man has done it all. The game also features the trailer for the newest game from Reflections Interactive, Driv3r. Check it out for a preview of one of the best driving games around.
Summary
This game is one of the best driving games ever made. Fans of the Driver series will love this game. Even fans of the Need For Speed series would play this game over and over. Why? Because each time you play it, you can do things in different ways so it's a totally new scene everytime. It is the ultimate game for those who dream of becoming someone in Hollywood. Do you have what it takes to be a Stuntman?
