Author's Review
I got this game when Nintendo first came out, so about 4 or 5 years ago. I was only 10 at the time so I wasn't the best at RPGs, also including that I'm a girl. The game is great to play. I was 11 at the time when I beat it, so it's a little bit kiddish. It took me a year to get all the stars in the level, but my cousin that was 20 at the time got them in about a week or less. This is one of the best games for Nintendo.
Story Line: 4/5
Mario, the Italian plumber, is off to save the princess again. But this time without his brother, Luigi. It starts off with a letter from Princess Peach stating that he is invited to the castle, she has baked a cake for him. Well of course it ends up when you come to the castle, she has been kidnapped by Bowser! Well, guess what? You have to save the princess. It has the story line of most of the games, but I think it brings back the memories. In order to save the princess, you have to go inside the castle. The first door you go in there will be a big picture. The picture has a grassy terrain with bomb ombs. Each level you will do the same thing, you jump through the picture and it will send you to the level the picture shows. You will have to find 5 stars from each level, not including the stars you get from finding 100 coins. There are 120 stars in all. Those stars will be used to open other levels, yet your stars will never go away. On your way you will fight Bowser 3 times, the third time you beat him you save the princess.
Control: 5/5
The controlling is pretty simple. Use the joystick to walk, A to jump, B to punch, C to change your views (your camera man does that), and you will use a combination of those buttons and Z, L, and R to do tricks, such as the back flip. The control pad is never used. Overall its really simple. It will probably take you around 5 minutes to get used to the controlling.
Replay: 4/5
It takes awhile to beat the game. There are many secrets in the game, they may take you a while to find. After I beat the last Bowser, I played it to get all of the secret stars. You can hold 4 games on it and me and my sister used up all the games. So it is replayable. I haven't stopped playing the game. Every once in while I will get out the game to walk around, I play it for my 6 year old cousin too. Yes it is replayable, but I don't guarentee that you will get out the game everyday and try to play it.
Graphics: 5/5
They graphics are not they greatest. But for Nintendo 64 they are great! They 3D graphics bring a new view of the game. It makes the game very colorful and there are no glitches.
Music and Sound Effects: 5/5
The music is great. It's fun and gets you into the game. It has some of the same songs as the first Mario games, that's what I like the most. The sound effects are great too. When you are in the outside the castle you can here birds. I think its kind of soothing. The sounds of him kicking are good too. When he does a back flip ou can here him flipping in the air. His voice also is good. In the lava level you can here the lava bubbling. The music when you beat Bowser is very fun. It's a me... Maaaario! Overall the sound effects are fun and the music is great.
Overall: 5/5
Overall this is one of the funnest RPG game ever. It's not extremely hard and it's not extremely easy. Its just right. All age groups can play it, well at least 5 and up. It just brings memories back of the first Nintendo. If you like RPGs, get this game. It's fun and it makes you think. The puzzles are not the hardest. They make this game for everyone and I really appriciate it that they made an RPG for all ages. A little kid can't play Zelda.
