Author's Review

I preface this with the fact that for over 12 years, I have been a PalmOS guy, having tried the Windows Mobile platform a few times over the years I never got the "feel" for it, plus from the standpoint of Total Cost of Ownership, I already had thousands of dollars in PalmOS software - so a "switch" was not really a smart idea, but it became one quickly.

A 2 year old Treo650 was beginning to get older, with Palm Inc. seemingly not releasing updates/patches anymore for my Unlocked GSM wonder, I began to look for a phone, and knowing T-Mobile did not have a Palm based phone at the moment, I looked elsewhere, direct from Palm getting the Treo680, or even just going back to a flip phone with Bluetooth and picking up a handheld.

Well in doing my research I noted I could get a deal from T-Mobile as for the last 3 years they have been trying to get me to renew my contract and upgrade my phone, being grandfathered into their original unlimited Edge/GPRS data plan, I can understand why ;) so I finally gave in and looked at their Windows Mobile phone the T-Mobile Dash, which sported the Windows Smartphone version (no touch-screen) and I must say I was impressed.

Getting the phone home after re-working my T-Mobile plan I began to fiddle with the features, the phone is "MyFaves" compatible which is nice as my new plan offered that, Bluetooth meant I could keep my current Jabra headset, and Wifi meant hotspot access on the go to T-Mobile's Hotspots, as well as public/personal networks I could join.

As a photo nut the included 1.3MP camera on board was not to shabby - it's not a WONDERFUL camera like my E-500 DSLR, but in a pinch "grab that photo op" - it does the job for a quick capture.

T-Mobile has done a good job too of keeping the device updated, offering the Windows Mobile 6 upgrade, which added some new features from Microsoft, and slowed the phone down a little, but it seems to perform better after being on a while.

All-in-All its a decent phone, with not many real 'cons' to it, but most issues with it for me come from missing PalmOS and the assorted applications and tweaks I had, but the internet speed, Windows Media support, and some good application developers, I'm very happy with the purchase - helps keep me mobile on my MacBook with GPRS/EDGE over Bluetooth PAN, and keeps my Gmail at my fingertips.
