T mobile wing: Don't leave home without it
Date of Review: Feb 16, 2008
The Bottom Line: If you need a phone that can support business usage, and need it simple and functional, this is a great choice.
Why I bought this product:
I purchased a T-Mobile Wing to replace my Blackberry, which had been ruined in a bad rain storm. The price was a bit of a jump for me, but I liked the look of the phone and the features. To be honest, I was initially attracted to the Wing because of the dark blue color, and the soft rubber coating that the phone has, making it comfortable to hold.
My First Impression:
It has a large screen, and full slide out QWERTY keyboard, making text messaging fast and easy. It has a touch screen and stylus and is just a bit larger than a pack of playing cards, which makes it a comfortable size; not too big and not too small. It makes a good unisex phone.
The phone itself has great signal, always better signal than anyone else around me. It is MyFaves compatible, available with most T-Mobile plans.
T-Mobile Wing Features:
The wing comes with your typical accessories, such as a calculator, speed dial capabilities and card games and includes other neat things like zip capabilities, a music player and file explorer. This is truly a pocket PC! However, just like a pocket PC, it can crash (and it does, occasionally) and I did need to purchase a memory chip to expand the memory and store pictures and documents.
The Wing has a contacts manager, where you can import contacts from MS Office, or manually type them in as you need to, with plenty of space for useful information such as multiple phone numbers, addresses, birthdates, anniversaries, etc. It comes with free software to sync it with any important data that you already have on your computer. It has a 2.0 Mega Pixel camera, which takes GREAT high quality pictures, which are completely print worthy, and can take short videos too. This phone comes with Windows Media, making playing short clips simple. This smart phone comes with plenty of useful software, such as MS Office, so you can open up Power point slides, word documents and more. It has an appointment calendar which acts as a PDA, so you can schedule appointments, set up reminders even create check off task lists. You can set up the phone to retrieve your IMAP or POP email. It is blue tooth enabled, which is another nice feature. It even has instant messaging built in for Yahoo, AOL, MSN and ICQ so you can carry on a conversation just about anywhere, even if the person you are talking to does not have text messaging.
What I have that is extra:
I subscribe to T-Mobile's internet service, which enables me to browse the internet with Internet Explorer. With this internet access, I can also hook it up to my lap top if there is no wifi available, and have internet access anywhere. I also purchased a memory card that I keep in the phone.
What I like about the Wing:
One of the most important features that I look for in a phone is a loud ringer, and this has it. I have customized both my home screen and ringers to suit my needs, and when my phone rings, you can't miss it. It also has good ear piece volume, and clear, true sound, meaning the person that you are talking to actually sounds like that person.
A feature that I like about this phone is I can use the stylus to "scribble" notes down, just like I could with a pad and pencil. This is great when I need to write something (or draw) quickly, and don't have the time to use the keyboard. It even has a handwriting recognizer, where you can "train" the device to learn your handwriting.
My Afterthoughts:
The battery life is good; I have been able to go up to three days, regular usage without having to charge it. However, be advised that using Wifi or Bluetooth will drain the battery life quickly. Overall, it's truly a great phone, I have "my life" in this phone and it makes managing tasks easy. I love to be connected to my email and the internet everywhere I go, so I never fall behind.
