Author's Review
I chose this model because it was in the price range I was willing to spend, and of those models in my range it was the most solidly built sturdy unit on display. I also like the Oster brand.
This is not a bad unit, but I would recommend reading the other reviews. I haven't had a bowl break yet, but I've only had the unit for about two weeks. I bought it to replace my Oster kitchen center which after 25 years has finally worn out.
I gave it the ultimate test - I purchased this because it's Christmas Cookie Baking season and I needed a processor. Straight out of the box I had it mixing heavy cookie dough and it came through the test very well. I've used it to knead bread dough, chop fruit, blend cheese, mix cookie dough and the only problems I've had were with a very heavy cookie dough - I had to end up blending the fruit in by hand, but it all fairness it's an extremely thick dough, it also leaks. Which is the only real drawback to this unit: you really need to be careful blending items that have a high liquid content.
I mixed up a dozen eggs and the center post unit is so short, that if you put too much liquid in it (higher than the top of the center post), the liquid will ooze down the center and out the bottom of the bowl. The good news is that the base is completely sealed. Although I ended up with raw scrambled eggs leaking out of the unit, the good news is it was pretty easy to clean up and I didn't need to worry about damage to the unit from liquids leaking into the motor. But it definitely isn't a 10 cup capacity where liquids are concerned.
For the price it's a good unit, and a hard worker - just be very very careful when adding liquids. Or - look for a different unit. I'm happy with my purchase, but I wish Oster could resolve the leaking problem.
The instructions were well written, and the unit was easy to use right out of the box.
