Author's Review
"The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2" is an updated sequel with more better cameraing, film quality, film editing, higher budget, and a much more complete story. The characters were also much better developed with much better dialogue as well as showing more feeling. There was also a lot more and better scenery. That is not to mention the gore being a lot more realistic and there being a lot more good suspense. This was definitely an updated "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" in better quality that was much more complete.
The movie started with a couple of young punk kids talking trash over their car phone with a disc-jockey on the radio as they were cruising on the Texas highways. They were suddenly stopped by a large pick-up truck stopped dead in the center of the road in a slanted position blocking the whole road with its headlights on. The kids were able to see it and stop in time, but that did not really do them any good. As they were both about to jump out of their car and jump the guys in the big pick-up truck, one of the guys in the big pick-up truck jumped out at them. Is there any need to mention who the guy jumping out was? Is there any need to say what he did? We all know there is no need to mention what weapon he used. That scene had very good action, good stunts, and good graphics.
Another introductory scene was the female disc-jockey, who became one of the main characters, in her studio having a stranger who was not employed there sitting in the lobby long after the set was closed and the doors were locked. The guy was recognizably Leatherface's crazier brother who introduced himself in his charming but insane and demented way. The lady told him to go but he just kept stalling until Leatherface came in. He sent Leatherface after her to where Leatherface could have caught her and killed her, but turned out to have some feeling for her and decided to let her go. There is another thing. This movie actually showed a passionate and sympathetic side to Leatherface with actual human feelings.
There was also the scene where the final decision for a chili-cooking contest was made. The winner for the best chili was none other than Leatherface's father. Imagine what kind of ingredients he used to make that excellent chili.
There was this lone cowboy, a new character, who was travelling across the state on a quest. He wanted to find Leatherface and his cannibalistic family. He even stopped at stores that sold chainsaws and tested them out to see how they would handle brutal treatment like they were being fenced with or something. It turned out that Franklin, the heavy-set victim in a wheelchair from the first movie, was this lone cowboy's brother. This lone brother finally found out who the killers of his late brother were, and was hot on their trail to give them a great big taste of their own medicine.
Grandpa returned in this movie as well. Also, on top of the inside of a rock cavern sat another corpse, an old female corpse. Grandma.
There was a lot of great suspense, action, stunts, graphics, dialogue, and well-developed characters in this movie. As mentioned above, this film also had a well-developed story. It is definitely a "must see" for those who really enjoyed the first "Texas Chainsaw Massacre". It is also recommended for horror fans, especially the kind into real gore and graphic violence.
