Author's Review
Highly satisfying, whether you are a novice pop fan, or a hardcore U2 fan. Personally, I never went out for U2 albums, although I do have their recent album, Pop (with Staring at the Sun).
This album obviously features the best of U2 from 1980 to 1990. But this album is more than that, it is probably the most worthwile hit packed best compilation ever made by an album in the last decade. Some of these songs' appeal endure so long that you would be amazed to find some are up to fifteen years old.
The first eight songs, with the exception of Bad, are the stand out brilliant songs that shot U2 into the music World. Among them are Pride (In the Name of Love), New Year's Day, With or Without You, I Still haven't Found What I'm Looking for, Sunday Bloody Sunday Where the Street Have No Name and I Will Follow. To find these six on one CD together is a great things for me and should be for most people. The songs of U2 are highly remarkable and I haven't yet found one person who doesn't not like these songs. All these songs are packed with so much life, desire and love that (especially Where the Streets Have No Name - When I go there, I go there with you) while make you smile and feel a maelstrom of emotions.
Although I have the highest compassion for these songs I don't especially care for the Unforgettable Fire and a couple of the tracks after #10.
But that track is another reason to but this album, it sort of puts the cherry on the top, the Sweetest Thing, U2's 1998 single, while not nearly as magical as the "classics", is worthy of your ears' attention.
Overall, if you are familiar with the great hits of U2 and hold some affection for them, this album is a terrific but for fourteen dollars and it won't be one you will ever return!
