Author's Review
Often controversial, but always entertaining, Eminem has done it again. This album shows his growth as a rapper, lyric composer and his maturity as a person. I believe this is Eminem's best work to date.
After hearing his last album "The Marshall Mathers LP ", I didn't think it could be topped, but once again Eminem has proved all his critics wrong. The lyrics are emotional, thought provoking, sometimes humorous, sometimes offensive, and he always manages to put in some catchy hook in each song. Dr. Dre shows off his talents on the great back ground beats and the high recording quality.
This album is more of a look into Eminem's personal life. He talks about his divorce, his mother & father, and of course his daughter Hallie, who even appears on the song " My Dad's Gone Crazy ". He shows a more serious side by actually singing on this album, to his daughter,on "Hallie's Song ".
No Eminem album would be complete without a huge radio and MTV hit. He delivers in a big way with his first single " With Out Me ". This song has all the great lyrics and the hard driving beats that you have come to expect from Eminem and Dr. Dre. Eminem also shows his humorous side with " Square Dance ", which contains lyrics like " God I talk alotta, hem de lay la la la, oochy walla walla,do do do da da da da, but cha gotta gotta".
If your a fan of Eminem, or even if your not, I highly recommend buying this album as soon as possible.
SONG LIST
1-Curtains Up (intro)
2-White America
This one starts the album with an angry rock sound. He takes shots at the media, he feels they treat him unfairly because he is a white rapper. He takes very hard shots at Tipper Gore and Mrs.Chaney.
3-Business
Along with the girls singing "Marshall" this song starts out with a very cool police siren in the back ground. The beats are Dr. Dre's best on the album.
4-Cleanin Out My Closet
What Eminem album would be complete with out a song that gives his mother another chance to sue him?
5-Square Dance
It has some funny song parts and a great beat.
6-Kiss (skit)
It's about an incident with his wife, Kim. He pulls up with a friend and a gun to wait for her to come outside so he can kill her. Apparently he pistol whipped a bouncer that he saw his wife kissing. Eventually he received probation in court.
7-Soldier
Hard gangster rap style song. He talks about how he will do any thing it takes to survive.
8-Say Goodbye Hollywood
Talks about how he's gonna leave the lime light. He wants to settle down and take care of his daughter.
9-Drips
Pretty offensive duet with Obie Trice. About girl that gives them both STD's. Obie does a great job on his rap parts and their pretty funny. But, then again, I have a sick sense of humor.
10-Without Me
As I mentioned, great first hit single. It includes a very cool play on the Batman theme song. Most of the lyrics are just plain silly.
11-Paul Rosenberg (interlude)
Paul calls and tells him not to bring his gun out of his house.
12-Sing for the Moment
Done over a sample of "Dream On" by Aerosmith. He raps about kids growing up under harsh conditions.
13-Superman
He talks to a girl, loving her one minute and hating her the next. My personal least favorite song on the album.
14-Hailie's Song
Eminem sings to his daughter. I think he had better stick with rapping.
15-Steve Berman (skit)
Steve is about to give Eminem his traditional cussing out and Em' shoots him.
16-When the Music Stops
D-12 makes an appearance. Great beat with a cool piano added in. D-12 always gives off the gangster vibe. Bizzare is one of my all time favorite rappers.
17-Say What You Will
Duet with Dr. Dre, in which they take turns attacking their enemies. Dre talks down on producer Jermaine Dupri and eminem lashes out at the band Canibus.
18-'Till I Collapse
Hard, dark song with a Queen sounding stomp and clap. Nate Dogg also appears and does a great job on this one. One of the best songs, listen to it!
19-My Dad's Gone Crazy
Starts out with the sound of Eminem chopping and snorting cocaine. His daughter asks him what he's doing. He once again lashes out at his mother.
20-Curtain's Close (skit)
This one features Eminem's homosexual nemesis, Ken Kenneth from Connecticut.
