THE NEW READING TEACHERS BOOK OF LISTS is a 290 pages of list that are educational oriented. This book would be just the thing for anyone that works with children. At home, at school, at scout meeting, or writers of children materials. The later is what I bought it for.
1. WORDS --- This chapter is dedicated vocabulary of all kinds like computer terms, application form words, survival words, mathmatic words, social study words, history words, and science words. It includes word forms like homophones, homographs, synonyms and anonyms. Lets dont forget spelling demons. It has 1,000 of the sight words for reading.
2. WORD GROUPS ---- This is dedicated to groups of words that we all know and understand like analogies, similes, metaphors, idiomatic expressions, idioms, and proverbs. What does it mean to be as light as a feather?
3. WORD ORIGINES ---- This consist of compound words, contractions, acronyms, initializations, foreign words and phrases, phobia words, prefixes and suffixes. What are you afraid of if you have acrophobia?
4. PHONICS --- This has initial consonant sounds, rhyming words, phonic example words, and phonic irregular words. We all know that KNOW is not spelled or pronounce as it sounds, this is an irregular phonic word.
5. COMPREHENSION --- This chapter consist of six different comprehension skills sections. Here is things like predicting outcome, what is an action words, etc.
6. STUDY SKILLS --- There are six study skills such as memory aids. This includes stuff like organizing for study and read to remember.
7. TESTING --- There special skill taught in this chapter to teach and help in test taking.
8. LANGUAGE ARTS --- This chapter has parts of speech, verb forms, sentence patterns, punctuation, capitalization, and syllables. It also has much more in this section.
9. BOOKS ---- Chapter nine is dedicated to books, of course. It list the books that can be used to teach reading like Basal readers, old time readers, Hi/LO books, books that are award winners. It even tells about books that come in large print or Braille.
10. REFERENCE --- Here is a list of abbreviations, phonic symbols, hand language, roman numerals, traffic signs, and library classifications.
This is a book that has all the list you could need for the classroom, for puzzles, children activities, and just down right fun. I take it on those long trips with grandchildren and play word games. It also makes a great additions to the home library. It makes a great homework helper.
