Author's Review
Here it is... the fourth season of the greatest show ever produced... The Simpsons. The 4-disc box set features all 22 episodes of season 4 as well as audio commentary from Matt Groening. Also included is 2 features: Bush vs Simpson and The Cajun Controversy. As well as many other features.
Here is a breakdown of the 22 episodes:
Kamp Krusty: This is one of my favorite episodes of the season. Bart and Lisa go to Kamp Krusty, only to find that Krusty is no where to be found. The kids begin a revolt to overtake the camp until Krusty finally shows up. Meanwhile, with the kids away, Homer gets in the best shape of his life, only to lose it when he finds out that Bart led the revolt.
A Streetcar Named Marge: Marge wins a part in a stage performance of "A Streetcar Named Desire." She gets her inspiration from, of all people, Homer.
Homer the Heretic: Another one of my favorites. Homer decides to skip church one morning and has the best day of his life, topped off by finding a heads-up penny. Homer then decides to never go to church again. He gets pursuaded to return to church after Ned saves him while the house is burning down.
Lisa the Beauty Queen: Lisa is upset after having a caricature drawn of her. To make her feel better, Homer enters her in the Little Miss Springfield contest. Lisa eventually wins after the winner is struck by lightning. Lisa relinquishes her thrown after she becomes part of an ad campaign to get children to smoke.
Treehouse of Horror III: The annual Halloween episodes. First, a killer Krusty doll tries to kill Homer. Next, Homer portrays King Kong. Finally, Bart and Lisa try to bring back their dead cat, however, they turn the town into zombies.
Itchy & Scratchy: The Movie: In an effort to prevent Bart from going down the wrong path in life, Homer forbids Bart from seeing Itchy & Scratchy: The Movie to punish Bart. In the future, we see that Bart becomes Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and finally gets to see the movie.
Marge Gets a Job: In an effort to make some money to fix their house, Marge gets a job at the powerplant. Mr. Burns falls in love with her and tries to suduce with Tom Jones.
New Kid on the Block: A sinlge mother moves in next door to the Simpsons and Bart falls in love with her daughter. However, the daughter falls in love with Jimbo Jones. To get back at Jimbo, Bart prank calls Moe and tells him that it was Jimbo and Moe threatens him with a knife.
Mr. Plow: Homer drives home from Moe's one night in a snowstorm and crashes in Marge's car. He goes to a car show and decided to buy a snow plow. Homer's business thrives until barney runs him out of business. For revenge, Homes sends Barney out during an avalanche only to go and rescue him. This episode also features one of the best jingles of all-time. "Call Mr. Plow, that's my name, that name again, is Mr. Plow."
Lisa's First Word: In this episode, we learn that Lisa's first word is "Bart." We also hear Maggie's first word, "Daddy."
Homer's Triple Bypass: Another one of my favorite episodes. Years of eating junk food finally catch up to Homer and he needs to have heart surgery. When they can't come up with the money, they turn to Dr. Nick to do the surgery. This episodes also contains Homer's "bed goes up, bed goes down" routine.
Marge vs the Monorail: Burns pays the city $3 million and the city decides to build a monorail. With Homer at the helm, the monorail goes out of control only to be saved by some quick thinking by Homer. This episode also contains my all-time favorite Simpson's song: "Simpson, Homer Simpson, he's the greatest guy in history. From the town of Springfield, he's about to hit a chestnut tree."
Selma's Choice: Selma is desperate to have kids, but after a day at Duff Gardens with Bart and Lisa, she decided that a per iguana is a better choice.
Brother From the Same Planet: After Homer forgets to pick-up Bart from soccer practice, Bart decides to get a big brother. At the same time, Homer gets a little brother. The four meet up at the aquarium and a huge brawl ensues.
I Love Lisa: Lisa gives Ralph a valentine, when she sees that he does not get one. Ralph falls in love with Lisa and takes her to the Krusty the Clown anniversery show where Lisa breaks Ralph's heart by telling him that she doesn't like him.
Duffless: Homer skips work to visit the Duff Brewery. He gets arrested for driving while intoxicated and has to cope with life without beer. Meanwhile, Lisa makes Bart into a science experiment after Bart ruins her first experiment.
Last Exit to Springfield: Homer becomes a union leader after Burns tries to remove the dental plan from the employee's benefit package. The plant goes on strike and Burns tries to run the plant with robots. After his experiment fails, Burns agrees to restore the dental plan if Homer resigns as the union leader.
So It's Come to This: A Simpson's Clip Show: Bart's April Fool's Day prank goes horribly wrong and Homer winds up in a coma. The family then reminisces while waiting for Homer to wake up.
The Front: Another one of my favorites. Bart and Lisa write an Itchy & Scrathcy cartoon but get rejected because the are kids. Bart and Lisa decide to re-submit the cartoon with Grampa's name on it. The cartoon becomes a hit and Grandpa wins an award.
Whacking Day: The town of Springfield joins together for the annual tradition of Whacking Day- where the townspeople whack snakes with sticks. Lisa tries to stop the town with a little help from Barry White.
Marge in Chains: Marge gets arrested for inadvertently stealing some medicine from the Kwik-E-Mart and sent to prison. The town tries to raise money to buy a statue of Abraham Lincoln but fails to raise enough money because they did not have Marge's marshmellow squares, so the town is forced to buy a statue of Jimmy Carter.
Krusty Gets Cancelled: Krusty's show gets cancelled when another kid's show featuring Gabbo, a ventriloquist's dummy. In order to revive his career, Bart and Lisa suggest that Krusty have a comeback special. Special quest appearances by Luke Perry, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and others.
