Product Review

Poopi, Cooter, Monkey Box

by   sandie7 ,   Aug 3, 2002

Pros:  different, quite amusing

Cons:  some too weird

The Bottom Line:  A book that may sound different from the title but isn't really that weird and some of it can be quite sad.

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

As some of you look at the title you may think, what a rude word or what a pervert. Some of you may sit there cringing at the thought of this review. The Vagina Monologues is a funny book and I had to read it after there being a play and the fuss made about this.

Eve Ensler clearly states at the start of the book that she interviewed women of different religions, age and races so that it does not seem like she is discriminating against the vagina. There is a long beginning to the book before it gets into the vagina monologues with an introduction on why the book was done and so on.

By the start of this book I wanted to get to the actual Vagina Monologues and see what kind of things Eve asked the women she was talking to. Even at the chapter titled Vagina Monologues she talks about the word vagina talking about how it sounds like an infection or a medical instrument. Some of the weird things she says are actually true.

I find it funny at the end of this section when she talks about worldwide names for a vagina some of these are, powderbox, poopi, cooter, monkey box, coochi snorcher, fannyboo and to shorten the list and not ruin the many names a Gladys Siegelman. The book then begins with a woman talking about her vagina being shaved, some of you may be in shock or some may laugh. Everyone has a different reaction to this book and mine was different to every interview. Some was weird, some stories funny, some shocking.

There are questions she asked women which when asked I just wouldn't know the answer if I had been an interviewee. One example of this is "If your vagina got dressed, what would it wear?" to this some replied a leather jacket, a pink boa, armani only, glasses. All of these bizarre some think casual, some fancy. One other question is "If your vagina could talk, what would it say, in two words? Now I will not give the answer to this as I don't want to ruin it for those of you who may be interested by this book.

I think Eve Ensler made quite an achievment when she got an old woman to talk about her vagina. She was private but she made her speak about it and I found this story strange.

In this book there are some vagina facts about histroy of vaginas. I didn't know these so I suppose I learned something. I also found it weird when from a story some one spoke or even the author I couldn't quite tell. There is a vagina workshop where you discover your vagina and sit there with hand mirrors, I found that strange.

There is too many things that happen in this book that are strange. I don't know what some people will think of this book but it's worth a read. I hope now that people will not think I am a pervert or freak, I am not. I am just explaining what the book is about so sorry if I offended anyone and please do still read what I write. Thank you.
