Author's Review
I just got this watch for Christmas. It's beautiful. I saw Will Ferrell wear it in the movie "Stranger Than Fiction" and wanted the same watch ever since. This watch plays a pretty big character role for an inanimate object. Nifty.
It is both a digital watch and an analog watch. The digital watch occupies the entire face of the watch, behind the analog dials, as opposed to previous versions of dual digital/analog watches where only a tiny screen near six-o'clock was supposed to serve as the "technology" section.
Those old watches by Casio, Seiko, and even Timex were lame. They looked all ugly because the digital part was always on and stuck out like an ugly sore thumb.
The Timex Ironman Triathalon T56371 is swank. Since it's full screen, you get to actually use all functions of a normal digital watch, like the chronograph, stored lap times, dual time, alarms, and count-down timers. Plus you can turn off the digital display to make the watch look classier. And that's not too hard since the bracelet is stainless-steel and looks marvelous. This watch doesn't leave out the now standard Indiglo light feature making the digital numbers stand out like little glowing jewels in the night. Even the watch hands have a glow-in-the dark coating for optimal viewing in low-light conditions. It's also water resistant up to 100 meters. Awesome!
I took out three bracelet links to fit the watch to my wrist. It was pretty easy to do with the right tools (a hammer and a strong pointy tool). The clasp looks like it'll last a while. I wish it was a little bit sleeker though--it's possible that some clothing might snag on the clasp and pop it open even though there's a locking mechanism on it.
This watch doesn't do all the fake crazy things that the watch did in the movie. The display isn't as fancy as the one in the movie, it's more or less a standard digital watch display. You have to adjust the analog hands independently from the digital time--it's as if you have two different watches on your wrist. It would have been cool if by changing the analog hands, the digital time would be linked and change with them. In the movie, Will Ferrell just uses the crown to do all the changes. That would have been sweet.
But I think that for around $57 this watch is totally worth it. The next step up would be the Nixon Superhero or the Nixon Insider, those are both awesome too.
