I Love This Movie.

I don't see how you can't like this movie. By far my all-time favorite this movie has neraly everything going for it.

First off is the plot. Retired cat thief attempts to clear name in exotic locale (Monaco) with help of stunning female lead character. Next, we have the director: Alfred Hitchcock. Definitely one of our century's most legendary names. Some argue that it isn't true Hitch in that there's no true suspense or bloody knife murder. But then I don't think even Hitchcock could always take his usually morbid flair. To Catch A Thief is Hitchcock being playful. Then we have the cat burglar in Cary Grant. I think Grant embodies what every man aspires to be at some point or another in his life. Talk about debonair. He defines the word. Finally, we come to what I believe to be the best part in the form of the American woman who aids Grant: Grace Kelly. I do not exaggerate when I say that she is the most beautiful woman of our time. She fits the role perfectly as an American jet-setter (which she in all reality was) and she never looked more ravishing.

But there's even more to To Catch A Thief. The cinematography is fantastic--especially the amazing aerial photos of Monaco. Sure, the car chase scene is a tad cheesy in terms of special effects but remember the movie's time period (1955) and you'll realize they didn't have the means nor was it necessary. Movies of this caliber need not rely on special effects to make them classics.

In any case you have a surefire winner in this movie. With its combination of Monaco, Hitchcock, jewelry theft, Cary Grant, and Grace Kelly I personally don't see how you can possibly go wrong. 5 stars all the way.
