TOMTOM ONE 130S has major defects
Date of Review: Jul 8, 2008
The Bottom Line: TOMTOM's service and product is not unusual so any GPS will do. The text to speech feature is great.
I purchased this 130S for my husband for father's day. For some reason the audio directions and the video directions were not in sync. Audio would tell you to turn left now but the video would show that you still had another 300 yards to go. I exchanged it a week later for another 130S. The second one's audio was barely a whisper - no way it could be heard in a moving car. Exchanged it for yet another 130S. The third one had good audio but in certain areas the directions were screwy. Traveling northbound on the Garden State Parkway from the Jersey shore it kept directing me to get out at exit 117 and take local routes rather than continue and get out at exit 129 which is the exchange for the New Jersey Turnpike. When I ignored it at exit 117 it again directed me get out at exit 127 and again take local routes 1 and 9. Another time, when attempting to go to the Jersey shore from Bergen County, it directed me to go to the Lincoln Tunnel and take the tunnel. When I spoke to Tomtom service they admitted that the 130S has 1) a defect with the audio being too low in some units and 2) the maps in New Jersey, Connecticut, Florida and Canada in some areas are defective. Thanks TOMTOM for selling a defective product and having no resolution to it. Their suggestion was to return it.
