Don't waste your money

I thought that the HP 610 digital copier would be a nice replacement to my old toner based copy machine. I was really wrong.

The only thing I will say good about it is that the black and white copies are very sharp and the color copies are also very sharp. That said, here is what I don't like about it.

1. Takes many minutes to warm up before making a copy, both at first turn on and after it has been on for awhile.
2. HP says 18 pages per minute, it takes me one minute to make one copy at low resolution. This happens regularly
3. The machine goes off by itself sometimes and clicks and clacks for no apparent reason. If you try to get it to make a copy during this time, you will have to wait until it comes back from whatever it was doing. I have waited up to a minute and a half.
4. It takes longer to copy a single check that it does to copy a full 8x10 document. It seems to slow down and stop at the bottom of the page when doing the check. It is like it ran out of words and gets lost. You can see the paper coming out with the copy on it but it just sits there for 30 or 40 seconds for no apparent reason.
5. It makes a lot of noise. Sometimes when you aren't even using it.

It took me two units to get one that worked and I am not even sure that the second one actually works correctly. I install computer equipment for a living and I have installed the HP all in one devices and the copy machine part is the same no matter which one you choose. My customers report the same things about their multifunction devices. HP does not acknowledge that these things happen.

This copy machine is the most frustrating piece of equipment that I have ever had the displeasure to use. Please don't spend your money on these things. A regular copy machine is the better device to buy unless you don't mind waiting.

I have a single copy personal Cannon copier and it is faster than the HP 610.
