4-Foot Cords?

Bought the switch at our local Radio Shack.
I am thankful that cords are supplied with this device, however, the length is misleading. When stretched tight, the monitor portion of the cord IS 4'0" exactly, the length of the PS-2 cords is slightly less than 1'11", effectively making the cord 1'11" long. If your CPU's are on the floor, the switch might not reach to the desk area, but you still have hot key operation.
Add to this the fact that most desks are not arranged to allow for two CPU's to fit in the place made for one, so it may not be possible for them to be too close. The cables are proprietary, so they can be extended, but not replaced.

I wish they had spent 20 cents more on cable, charged a dollar more, and kept the profit. (Or $2 more and made both a full 6 feet.)

Before reading the following, please note that I have spent the last 30 years in retail electronics. I have used and sold TrendNet and many other brands and experience has shown that the vast majority of problems have to do with either errors in expectation or operation and NOT with the electronics, which, in these times has proven to be quite reliable.
That being said, I hooked up the switch to my HP XP and Gateway 98SE and powered both on as per simple instructions included. Nothing. Nada. No lights on switch or keyboard. Worse yet, I noticed that the HP didn't even show the power light! (No damage.)
Did simple testing to rule out shorted cable. Tried operation with each CPU alone. Still nothing.
Called TrendNet support (available 24/7 no less). Rep asked the usual, did some checking, and said the switch may be incompatible with some ASUS motherboards, but that's another issue I'll check next.
