Pleasantly Surprised

I bought Under Rug Swept as a birthday present for a friend. When I took it home I played it on my stereo to check there were no scratches etc...and never looked back! The friend ended up getting a completely different gift because I loved the album so much.

It was great to find the album was so good, as I was somewhat disappointed with Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie, which I reckon isn't half as good as Jagged Little Pill.

I'd recommend this album to anyone who's ever sung along with Ironic on the radio - this is classic Morrisette. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but if you've liked what's come before then you'll love this. Prepare yourself for some of the more experimental stuff, though this set list contains nothing as extreme as that found on Supposed. The tracks follow a kind of story, with the end of one relationship and the beginning of another. High points include the opening track, 21 Things, a rant ticking off Ms. Morrisette's likes and dislikes in the opposite gender, as well as the fabulously insulting Narcissus - great if you're feeling bitter after a break up - and That Particular Time, a nice slow one, great chill-out track. Some tracks (like Man and Utopia) aren't as good, but this is after all only my subjective opinion.

My advice? Buy it. If you don't like it, you're bound to find someone nearby who'll love it.
