Some Hearts - Carrie Sings Her Heart Out on This One!
Date of Review: Nov 20, 2005
The Bottom Line: This is a great album for listening anytime. Country with a little pop and rock!
I think anyone who watched American Idol last season, has been waiting on Carrie Underwood s debut album. That album titled Some Hearts made it to stores and I have to say that I believe the wait was worth it. I have been worried that the powers that be at American Idol would take Carrie away from her country roots and throw her to the pop idol wolves. I am happy to say that they didn t do that, but instead helped her put out an album that can please not only her country fans, but also those who like the pop/rock music that many of the other American Idols have recorded. This album proves that you can take the girl out of the country, but you can t take the country out of the girl!
Carrie has a wonderful voice for country music and fans young and old seem to really be able to connect with her. I think she will begin to make her place country music with this album. Country music radio in my area has definitely been playing her current single Jesus, Take The Wheel with from what I have heard a great response from listeners. Carrie not only shows her talent as a singer, but also co-wrote one song on this her debut album.
The Tracks
Wasted - I believe this song will probably be another single from this album and probably a big hit for Carrie. This song showcases her voice and the musicians really make this a great song. This song will make you think about what is important and to use your time wisely and not waste it.
Don t Forget To Remember Me - This song has the ability to make any parent cry. It is a beautiful song about a child leaving home and being told to remember where she came from and those who love her. The guitar and mandolin in this song are worth listening for.
Jesus, Take The Wheel - What can you say about this song, I believe the lyrics say it all.
Jesus take the wheel
Take it from my hands
Cause I can't do this all on my own
I'm letting go
So give me one more chance
To save me from this road I'm on
Jesus take the wheel
A great song that will make you take a look and your life and how you are living it.
The Night Before (Life Goes On) - Another song on this album that could definitely be a hit for Carrie. This is a song you need to be sure and check out on this album.
Lessons Learned and Before He Cheats are the two songs that I am the least impressed with on this album. They just don t seem to possess what the other songs on this album do.
The next three songs on the album Starts With Goodbye, I Just Can t Live A Lie and We re Young and Beautiful are good songs that range from a really pop sound, to what I think will be a great country song. The song I Just Can t Live A Lie could be another great single from this debut album.
That s Where It Is is a little upbeat and more pop sounding to me, just not a country kind of song. The next song Whenever you Remember is one of those songs I just really think that she could have found something much better to include here.
I Ain t in Checotah Anymore was co-written by Carrie and I hope she is proud of it. It is like the song about her life over the last year. It is her anthem to not being a small town girl anymore, but learning about the differences in life in the big city.
Inside Your Heaven of course was the first single released by Carrie after winning American Idol. I think this song was released to be a pop song and it did good for Carrie and got her noticed. I love this song and am glad that it was included on this album.
Final Thoughts
I really enjoyed listening to this album and believe anyone who enjoyed Carrie in American Idol last year will like it too. I just hope that country music opens its arms to Carrie and gives her a chance to really show her talent as a country singer. I believe this album has her off to a great start and I am sure we will be hearing more from her for years to come.
Some of Carrie s younger fans will be happy to get the poster of her included in this CD, but I for one would have liked to have the lyrics to read along as she sings.
I hope that everyone gives this debut album a chance and listens to the range of songs that are recorded on it. Pop/Rock and country fans can all be pleased by this album and the songs included on it. Give this a listen I know you will be glad you did!
