Product Review

Dead after 2 years 3 months

by   mikefeller ,   Oct 18, 2006

Pros:  The microwave worked flawlessly for 26 months until it suddenly quit altogether

Cons:  I expect a $500 microwave to work longer than 2 years & 3 months

Overall Rating: 1/5 stars

Author's Review

We purchased a Viking 1100 watt microwave oven from RSI Distributing in St. Louis in July, 2004. After relatively light usage during the past 2 years & 3 months (mostly to make popcorn and oatmeal), our microwave suddenly would not "power-up". We took it to the local Maytag distributor (the authorized Viking warranty repair shop), and were informed that it was no longer under the limited 1 year warranty. However, we agreed to pay $50.00 to have them analyze it anyway.

The result? A blown fuse, capacitor and dead LCD panel. The estimated repairs would cost $340.00 + the $50.00 bench charge; given that we only paid about $500.00 for the unit, we decided to just forget about repairing it and to purchase a new NON-VIKING microwave.

As an aside, we have also had continuing problems with the thermostat control of our Viking double convection oven that we purchased at the same time, and have had the repairmen at our home on three separate occasions to repair it.

WE WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER VIKING PRODUCT!!
