Author's Review
I have complained to my husband for months about 10 year old our boxy behemoth TV. My husband, the man who has yet to accept cell phones, tells me to just wait until they come down in price. What he meant of course is "Wait, and you will forget about it and move on to something else."
A Good Deal
Being the deal hunter that I am, I took his words as a challenge to find the best deal I could and play my move. I searched, and scanned, and compared, finally settling on the the Westinghouse 32 inch for around $500 at Wal-Mart.
I will be honest, it wasn't the lowest price around. I found some others - brands I'd never heard of, and remanufactured dealies - that were a bit cheaper online. Call me old fashioned, but I like a name that I recognize (although it's not one of the most prominent), and having an LCD TV shipped makes me nervous. I know, I know, shipping is no big deal. That's just me.
The TV
My husband agreed to buy the TV without much moaning. After all, he is addicted to his silly shows and secretly desires to watch them in high def. Plus, it was my 30th birthday, so what could he say really?
Stepping out of the stone age feels good. Although the screen size appears significantly smaller than our 36 inch tube tv, the clarity of the LCD and space saving design make it much more enjoyable to watch.
Specs
Weighs 32 pounds - My husband carried to without so much as a grunt!
31.4" x 24.39" x 8.9" (with Base); 31.4" x 22.0 " x 6.0" (w/o Base)
Multiple inputs intelligently placed in the back of the unit in what they call "Waterfall" cable management. Another feature the unit boasts is auto source detection. They have taken laziness to the next level (woohoo!)by freeing you from the hassle of pressing the tv/video button. Okay, so not a big deal really, but a feature nonetheless.
The downside
There is always a downside, and in this case its the sound. I would describe it as more dull than tinny, but equally undesirable. We remedied the problem by connecting the TV to our stereo speakers. However, if you don't plan to do that you might want to consider how happy you will be with this TV.
Links of interest
You can visit the Westinghouse website for further specs and features at: http://www.westinghousedigital.com/details.aspx?itemnum=111 . On the right side of the web page is an option to "print" your TV to see how it would look on your wall. It apparently prints out the actual size of the TV (on many sheets of paper). What will they think of next?!?!?
Happy Viewing,
