BANG!!! for your hard earned bucks
Date of Review: Jan 3, 2008
The Bottom Line: 1080P 42 inch HDTV at a 720P or less price! Great picture quality and sound. More adjustable options than most HDTV's available today.
To start off I have to say that the majority of your stores (I could possibly say all and be right) that sell HDTV's are not showing you what the sets are capable of. Take into consideration all those displayed TV's are showing a signal that is split many times through many connectors, degrading the audio and video it is displaying. This fact is based on floor reps in the stores themselves to me at everyone I went to include: Circuit City, Best Buy, on base military exchanges, Costco, Wal-Mart, Kmart and Radio Shack. ALSO, those stand alone models hooked up to BLURAY or HDDVD? Take a look at the back and you will see that they that they are either hooked up via component or low end HDMI cables, clearly not displaying the full capability of the component or the TV. All this doing a customer a great disservice I believe. With all this said, trust that I have done my homework outside the stores before and after visiting stores and viewing/hearing the models themselves.
In the store, this was not the best looking HDTV. I asked the floor rep and was told that all the TV's were sharing a multi split signal and that it was at 720P. The 720P sets looked pretty good considering the circumstances and the higher priced ones looked better. What I took into consideration was that all were receiving a degraded 720P signal and the 1080P sets were being held back in performance capability including this one. The sets were playing Planet Earth with a BLURAY player. This set held its own but like I said did not look the best at the time and I kept telling myself "if only it was showing the video at 1080P..." As I watched I researched it and a few other sets on online reviews like CNET on my cell. What I found out was this was a more than capable HDTV. One thing that stood out was the ability to adjust the screen picture in many ways compared to other TV's. So, after many reviews and much gas mileage I purchased this set. I connected it to my PS3 with the Monster ultra 1000 HDMI cable. What happened after that was pathetic. I spent most of Christmas and New Years throwing everything I had at it and tweaking it in every way possible. What kept me going was that it was all excellent and I just had to see more! I still can't believe what I am seeing for the money I paid! Every chance I get when friends are over I sit them down and show them it, from PS3 games to BLURAY video to HD sports on Fox and they enjoy it almost if not more than I do then are always blown away when I tell them how much I paid for it, $970.00.
All in all, this is what an HDTV experience should be after an extensive year long pursuit and a 1000 dollar budget. (I would price this at a minimum of 1500 EASY if I was selling them)Get yours while everyone else thinks Westinghouse is still crap. Their loss! Oh yeah, I heard from a friend at crutchfield that they are picking the Westinghouse line up again due to their newfound popularity.
