Author's Review
Back in December 06 we replaced a tempermental GE washer/dryer set. I had read many good things about the Whirpool brand and had decided that was going to be our next set. I purchased both a washer and dryer but did not get the matching set. However they are so similar in looks that unless you point it out to someone they wouldn't notice. This particular dryer was purchased at Lowes who delivered & installed it, removed my old one and gave a rebate for the delivery charge.
The top where the settings are has a beautiful silver finish that gives it a nice modern look. Wipes down nicely with a damp cloth. On the settings panel you will find a push button knob for start. You will also see a wrinkle shield switch to turn from on to off, and the same with a end of cycle buzzer switch. The buzzer is quite loud and if you have this in a basement area I am pretty sure you will hear it just fine. Mine is on the main level of our home. I do wish you had the option to adjust the sound but you only have the on or off option.
You will also see a switch to choose...
Air only - no heat
Ex low - delicates
Low - knits
Medium - casual
High - heavy.
To the far left on the selection panel you have a rotary dial for choosing dry time/cycles. Timed dry is listed as between 20-70 minutes. You also have the option to use the accudry sensor dry setting. With this option the dryer senses when the clothes are dry and shuts down. I personally love this feature because you are not paying for extra electricity to run it longer than needed. On occasion it has shut off and the clothes still slightly damp but not very often. I use this setting the most often. The timed dry works fine but as I stated, I don't like guessing how long a load will be and drying longer than needed.
The drum is nice & large, I have no problems drying a Cal king quilt/comforter along with a top sheet and maybe a set of pillow cases but that's pushing it a bit. The dryer is really quiet, surprisingly so. I have mine in a hallway of an open floor plan home, about 10 feet from my television and do not struggle to hear the tv at all.
What would I change about this model? Two things.
The lint trap is on the top, I would rather have it inside.
It seems to me when you remove the trap that the lint if loose could easily slide right back down the hole.
The handle is on the top of the door and the door folds down. The first time we used it I really had to give it a good tug to open but that since loosened up. With the way the handle is, I could see it breaking within a few years. Given the choice I think I would have gone with a side opening door.
I often dry very large loads, probably more than I should and the clothes still dry in a great amount of time. My old GE took close to an hour and a half to dry a big load of jeans. With this dryer I have never dried a huge load in over 50 minutes. If I start a regular size load the same time I start the washer, it is almost always done at right about the same time and sometimes sooner. I couldn't be more pleased with my purchase.
