Yamaha CDRW Plays Music to my Ears

by   gujustud ,   Oct 17, 2000

Pros:  SCSI, Doesn't screw up CDR's.

Cons:  Slower than todays models

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

I was the first out of everyone that I know, to have ever owned a CDRW.

The first I bought was a HP (Parallel Port) but I took it back 3 days later after it messed up 5 CDR's.

I eventually went and bought the Yamaha 4260TX. I spent about $1100 on this CDRW.

Okay, before you smack me over the head, and ask what I was thinking, remember, this was one of the FIRST of very little CDRW's that were released at the time. I purchased it January 1998, which if you think about it, not many people had CDR's at the time.

At the time, and EVEN NOW, this is a GREAT CDRW. The basic specs on this CDRW, are External SCSI (need I say more?). 2x (Rewrite), 4x (Write), & 6x (Read).

Sure today most CDR's are what.. 8x?? (correct me if I'm wrong). Anyways think about the time I got that. Once again, even today, many CDR's are not SCSI. This is SCSI which makes almost PERFECT copies everytime I make a CDR. Music CD, DATA, even VideoCD's are done to perfection.

I love this CDRW, and I must say it has recorded hours and hours, and I've had not a problem with it. I yet to have it cleaned, which I should get done soon to keep it top notch, but otherwise, I cannot complain.

It came with a Adaptec SCSI card, which was extremely easy to install. All drivers came with the package, along with the SCSI Cable. I'd have to say it was a little short, but thats to come with External SCSI.

Sure the only downfall is that it is slow, but thats compared to todays CDR's. But I've noticed even with my friends newer CDR's I make less frisbee's then they do.

I can't complain with this CDRW at all. I can take it to anyone's house who has a SCSI card, and we can start making CD's. CDR is the best storage you can get these days, and Yamaha proved it to be worthy. I definetly recommend this CDRW if you happen to find one. I'm guessing there are a lack of reviews, because it was one of the first generation CDRW's, but in my mind, its one of the best.
