Good modem after all
Pros:
Small and light, USB connection, Fast Transfer
Cons:
Bad driver supplied with the CD, no phone jack :(
The Bottom Line:
It is very good one but before installing anything, you should download the latest driver for it!

I bought this modem before just about two weeks ago. I wanted external modem to free one PCI slot and also I thought that USB is better than serial connection.
I find myself agreed with paganlily1 review about this modem. Oddly, I have the same motherboard as he/she owns with the same kind of processor.
Now, let get from the start, opening the package, there were very nice and lightweight modem, small and with a USB cable, but no phone jack :(
I have 4 USB ports in this good Asus A7V motherboard while Athlon 1300 with 768 MB powers my PC.
Putting the CD and installing the driver (nothing interested me in the CD except the driver) and let Windows 2000 do all.
It worked great, but in the middle of night after 2 hours in the net, my system crushed! I rarely had this behaviour with windows 2000. It is the best OS that Microsoft brought (XP Pro is also a trusty one), so I was so surprised! I thought maybe it is related with the heat of the processor, or bad memory slot. I didnt doubt it is the modem at first thoughts.
After the first week, cheeking the heat and memory..etc, I discovered that only when Im connected to the internet, the odd crush is happening, and what bothered me most, that there is no way to escape this crush only by resetting the PC!
I noticed that only the ON, CD lights are on, while the TR is flashing while using the net, but the OH light never lighted on.
I didnt believe that a new driver will do something, but I gave it a try. I went to Zoom web site and downloaded the new driver.
After uninstalling the old driver and installing the new one, everything seemed to work fine. The OH light is on now! And no more crushes to the system (till now).
The transfer rate is better than my old Motorola chip based modem, and if this modem stay working like now, then it is very good modem and I recommend it.
Well, after one week I just updated this review to say that this modem is working fine with the updated driver, no more strange crushes like I had with the driver from the CD supplied.
