TMBG Then is wonderful for the hater of boring rock music.

There is nothing the Johns of They Might Be Giants can put out that will be unappreciated to me. This album though, is exactly what "God Ween Satan" is for Ween. These tracks make up a lexicon from which so much comedy, creativity, and this undefinable detachedness spring. This is the Finnegan's Wake of music.

Fans will already know that the songs come from the self-titled debut, as well as 'Miscellaneous - T' and 'Lincoln.' But there are more and more and more tracks, the most gimmicky being a bad recording of maybe thirty pre-schoolers singing 'particle man' to a slow piano accompaniment.

I'm running low on my caffeine buzz from this morning, and am not feeling all that verbose. As a musician though, I would definitely say that They Might Be Giants knows that there is an art to recording completely removed from simply making formulaic pop music, and this album embodies their mastery. Oh yeah, I haven't taken the first disc of the 2-cd set out of my car's cd player for about three weeks running.
