BUNN means great coffee!

I purchased my BUNN coffeemaker almost ten months ago after deciding to upgrade from a $15 Black and Decker. It cost me almost ten times as much to get it and I had to look long and hard to find the BUNN in Canada. Why go through all that trouble and hassle, do you ask?

I LOVE coffee and spending $100 for a conventional coffeemaker isn't justified when you can get a similar conventional coffeemaker for $30. The BUNN is something different. BUNN has been producing coffeemakers for commercial use for ages, so they should have coffee-making figured out by now. I also know that spending just a bit more will yield a better made product with which I'd be satisfied.

It was really difficult finding the BUNN NHB here in Canada. I looked everywhere on the web and couldn't find a shop that had it. Then, out of the blue, I found it! And I realized that it was right in front of me (and at almost every corner in Canada): Tim Hortons. Tim Hortons carries the BUNN NHB, but with their own logo. That's the only con about it, but, hey, Tim Hortons is a Canadian tradition. I purchased it for around $125 CDN plus taxes and got 25 coffee filters to boot!

The coffeemaker consists of a huge brushed stainless steel tank and, well yes, plastic, but quality plastic. Though I would have appreciated a little bit of a better design, you have to remember that BUNN manufactures mainly commercial products and is not about aesthetics like.

Just like a commercial brewer, the NHB keeps a reservoir of water in the tank at 200 celsius. So well you prepare the coffee filter and grounds and pour in the water and close the top, the hot water that's in the tank comes out instantaneously to make your coffee. The coffee is done before you know it (about 2 minutes for 1/2 the carafe). The cold water you just poured in "refills" the water reservoir and is heated up.

There's no pleasant bubbling sound and perking sounds like you get from "conventional" coffeemakers and also no steam to warp your cabinets.

Yes, the water is kept at 200 celsius ALL THE TIME. My electric bill hasn't soared. It hasn't even changed.

For me, the coffee tastes "cleaner" and really, really good.
