It seems many of the things we buy these days is made in China and it's junk; and given there is usually something wrong with the product right from the get-go when you open it new out of the box or it croaks a year or two after you've had it and the retailer or manufacturer doesn't stand behind the product.
Maybe it's just me but it seems bad manufacturing workmanship is epidemic and most retailers wave at you as if they were used car salesmen and you were driving off a used car lot with a lemon that you paid cash and there grinning ear to ear thinking, "see you sucker, thanks for the donation".
But I have to say I am flat-out, dumb-stuck, shocked at the way Ultimate Ears stands by the Super.FI 5 Pro universl fit ear phone product I purchased from a local Chicago Apple Store about 11 months ago.
Fist off, the sound quality of the ear buds is incredible. Of course it should be given the close to three hundred dollars I paid.
They worked great till one nite when I was listening to music on my iphone the right ear bud goes dead. I called the Apple Store and explained the situation and they said the return policy is 30 day return with original packaging.
They didn't give me any additional information on Ultimate Ears' policy so I "googled" Ultimate Ears and saw they had a year warranty.
I called them in Irvine, CA and I was all ready for the circle-jerk, mind-meld that is soooo common when returning a crappy product that has croaked on you way to early, after buying it new.
But that's not at all what I got.
The woman who I was directed to in the earphone department asked me what the problem was. I told her and she explained to me that the ear-bud could be unplugged and connected to the cord for the other ear to confirm it was the right bud that was dead. I told her I'd done that and at that point she gave me a return number and told me to return everything I had, to write a brief description of the failure and then to pack everything I had of the original parts and accessories to put the number she gave me on the box I packed everything in and to send it to the return address she gave me.
A week later I received a new earphone. The new earphones seemed to have even better sound quality then the replacement earbuds. While the same model, the replacement buds seemed to be a new and better engineering of the buds I had returned because of the right earbud going dead.
These guys are great. They are in the top five in quality and service of any electronic manufacturer I have ever dealt with. Being a 48 year-old gadget-phile, I've had a lot of gadgets from a zillion cellphones, PDA's, Laptops, et.al. and if there's a defect it seems I'm the one that gets it.
Ultimate is the Ultimate in what they do.
