Author's Review
I have been using and relying HEAVILY on PalmOS handhelds since the late 90s because I cannot remember a thing if I don't write it down...
After my Tungsten|E recently suffered an untimely death (busted screen), I decided to see it as an opportunity to upgrade and get a new toy, so I went all out and got the best model Palm has to offer...
And how do I like it?
This little thing is amazing! The storage capacity is HUGE - granted, I could fill 4 gigs easily with music, but I have my iPod to carry music files with, so my LifeDrive only has to worry about pictures, video, and programs - which is does just fine.
The screen is bright and easy to read - with very good color clarity and very high resolution (you can barely make out the individual pixels).
Battery life is good - Even with WiFi and Bluetooth both running, the battery will last hours - though it is a good idea to charge the unit overnight, every night just to make sure you have a full battery for the next day...
Though it is slightly fatter than my Tungsten|E, it is by no means too large. It fits easily into my pants pocket (even with its case) and also feels comfortable in the hand.
Landscape view is great for web browsing, and editing office documents (The wireless keyboard will be my next purchase). With a wireless keyboard, the LifeDrive will make a very effective alternative to carrying a laptop with you.
WiFi and bluetooth performance is also great - both are fast and easy to set up.
The only issue? The delay when opening some programs. Now granted, this is not a intolerably long delay (maybe 1 or 2 seconds every now and then at the longest, usually closer to 1 second or less). This is just because the LifeDrive has to search through the hard drive to find things - but the delay is not long, and the added storage capacity is more than worth the split second delays it causes...
All in all this is a great PDA - I would highly recommend it for power users who want to get the most out of what the handheld market has to offer.
