Do you want to buy XP when VISTA is out?

Do you want to buy XP when VISTA is out? Now that VISTA is out I think it would be hard to review XP, without a brief mention about the obvious alternative - VISTA.

XP is still a very good OS, it looks and feels similar to VISTA on the outside, but isn't really when you consider what's on the inside - in terms of the architecture of the newly produced OS, when compared to XP!

XP is a very efficient operation system. It is quite secure IF you keep a separate firewall, you keep your browser up to date and of course - you have a virus checker! If you don't have a virus checker, then you should get one ASAP! Before a virus makes Swiss cheese of your data - it is amazing how many people don't have a virus checker that is kept up-to-date.

VISTA is more secure on the inside, and, despite a similar user environment, it has extra bells and whistles on the outside - when it comes to the user interface, and a whole lot of administrative features that most people won't touch–on.

In order to answer the question (VISTA or XP?), you have to look at what's inside your PC case, since VISTA drains system resources (in slower PCs) and is not compatible with slightly old hardware (many manufacturers of our beloved hardware cards have only supported their newest models for VISTA!).

So if you don't feel like throwing all your hardware away, and you don't have a dual core - high spec computer, with an impressive graphics card, then XP is probably for you – for the time being.

The price here for XP pro is very reasonable indeed, and I very much suspect XP will be with us for a long time yet!

What does it feel like to use XP? That would depend entirely on what your used to using before. Because I haven't been using many OS's older than xp, I cant really make many comparisons with windows 3.1, 95 or 98. I'm afraid I was just too young back then to use them!

I did briefly use win 2000 for a year, when I first started using my own computer, and what I can say about that, is that XP is quite like windows 2000, with XP having improvements that make things easier - such as previewing images held in folders on the folders as they are displayed (allowing you to see what's in a photo, before opening it). Its great not to have to remember the names of all your pictures (and videos), instead XP shows you a picture preview of each one - that I think is truly a good idea!

Xp is just generally smoother than 2000 and its much better to use! If you have 98, Microsoft have stopped supporting your operating system now, so you would honestly do well to upgrade to XP, since you may be vulnerable to internet attack! It is the way today that there are loads of hackers out there, who are constantly looking for holes in the security of your OS; the only way to stay ahead of their game is to keep your OS up to date, and you can only do that through update and support.

If you are using windows 2000, and you use your pc quite a bit, I would have no hesitation in recommending you upgrade to xp pro. Its nicer, its friendlier, it has lots of support – and it feels much more like a well finished product than 2000 does.

XP pro is an efficient and reliable operating system, with lots of support, that most people I speak to have still not migrated away from.
